I don't know why people are claiming that this isn't a real complaint. While I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that mario now shows facial emotion in 2D, I do think it is "forced" to a degree compared to every other game where mario's face is completely stoic. You know, so that he can be a better self insert for the player.
